Hi Family!
The Soul Kitchen was created after my family and I moved from Marietta,GA to the ritzy side of 285, See, I was born and raised in Atlanta, and soul food was a weekly, if not, daily staple in our home. However, once I moved to Dunwoody, I noticed that there weren’t many places that served a good ole hearty SOUTHERN meal.

And viola, The Soul Kitchen was born! Our authentic taste comes from family recipes and from fresh, simple and tasteful ingredients straight from home. In every meal from “The Soul Kitchen” there is a whole lot of good ole’ southern culture and flavor. We hope that you enjoy our recipes as much as we enjoy cooking them for you!
My Story
Hi, I'm Heather aka Pookie, a nickname that was given to me from a childhood friend. Anyway, I was born and raised in Atlanta, a true GEORGIA PEACH. My mother was a college student who traveled from Kentucky. When I was a child I spent summers in Kentucky on my Grandparents farm. My grandfather raised cows, bulls, and pigs, and chickens. I remember gathering eggs out of the chicken coop, and feeding baby calves their milk from the "tity" buckets. My grandma grew vegetables tomatoes', onions, green beans, potatoes, and corn. The list goes on and on. Not only did my cousins and I help her plant the veggies, we helped pull, pluck, shuck and snap them as well. After that we would wash them and help her cook as well. This is where I gained my LOVE for cooking. As an adult, since my mother didn't get that "cooking gene", I watched and learned from other family members and close friends. NOW, I cook for my own family. Naturally that turned into cooking for the ENTIRE family for all holidays and special events. My auntie is always talking how good my ribs are!! :-)
